I borrowed the "multi-eyes" motif from a Yoruba mask at the Brooklyn Museum, but I added pieces of hair extensions I bought from a beauty shop by my apartment (they're synthetic!). The locks streaming from the corners of the eyes symbolize the pain that is necessary for growth. And the tickling discomfort of creatures that can only cry hair.
